Central Tibet Tour

This 8-day journey begins with an overland drive across the Himalayas from Nepal into Tibet, followed by visits to Tibet’s most historic and spiritual landmarks. Highlights include the majestic Potala Palace, the revered Jokhang Temple, Drepung and Sera Monasteries, the Dalai Lama’s Summer Palace, and Dragontil Monastery. The tour also includes a scenic hike around the Sky Burial mountains. The entire route is along paved roads, making it one of the most comfortable travel experiences in Tibet.

Itinerary

Day 01 :
From Kathmandu to the Tibetan Border

Start your journey with a beautiful drive from Kathmandu to Kerung, winding through scenic countryside. After clearing border checks and possibly a short hike depending on road conditions, you'll cross into Tibet. Settle into a guesthouse for the night.

Day 02 :
Entering the Tibetan Highlands

Continue your ascent to the Tibetan plateau — the highest and most expansive in the world. Along the way, you may catch stunning views of towering Himalayan giants like Mt. Cho Oyu and even Everest if the skies are clear. Spend the night in Tingri or Lhatse.

Day 03 :
Onward to Xigatse

Drive across the dramatic Gyatchu La Pass and make your way to Xigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city. This stretch also connects with the route to Mt. Kailash. Rest overnight at a comfortable local hotel.

Day 04 :
Temples, Lakes & Mountain Passes

Begin with a visit to the sacred Tashilhunpo Monastery, then continue to Gyantse for a look at the impressive Kumbum Stupa and Phalkor Monastery. The journey to Lhasa is packed with breathtaking sights—glacial mountain passes, the turquoise Yamdrok Lake, and the mighty Brahmaputra River. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 05 :
Exploring the Heart of Lhasa

Dive into Lhasa’s cultural treasures. Visit the spiritual Jokhang Temple and stroll through the vibrant Barkhor Bazaar. Tour the magnificent Potala Palace, once home to the Dalai Lama. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 06 :
Lhasa Sightseeing

Continue your exploration of Lhasa with visits to two of Tibet’s largest monasteries: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery, known for its lively debates. Immerse yourself in the local rhythm of spiritual life. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 07 :
Heading West to Xegar

Leave Lhasa early and travel across sweeping high-altitude plains to Xegar. It’s a long drive, but the open landscapes and isolated beauty of the region make it memorable. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 08 :
Return to Nepal

On the final day, journey back to the Nepal-Tibet border at Kerung. After border formalities, continue your drive back to Kathmandu — bringing your Himalayan adventure to a close.
