Central Bhutan Adventure
Venture into the enchanting Bumthang valley, often dubbed the “Switzerland of Bhutan,” on this central Bhutan tour. The route takes you over three lofty mountain passes: Dochula at 3,100 meters, Pelela at 3,300 meters, and Yotongla, the highest at 3,400 meters. Bumthang is the spiritual heartland of Bhutan, where the valley is scattered with some of the oldest historical monuments and sacred sites in the country, some of which date back to the 7th century A.D., a time about which little is known today. The tour also covers Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdue, and Trongsa. Other highlights include a visit to the Gangtey valley to catch a glimpse of the rare black-necked crane, an endangered species that migrates from the Tibetan plateau and Siberia in winter, and a visit to the Kuenga Rabten Palace, which was the residence of Bhutan’s second King, Jigme Wangchuk, for a decade.
