This 6-day journey includes visits to the National Library, School of Arts & Crafts, and the Textile & Folk Heritage Museum, exploring Bhutan’s western valleys—Paro, Thimphu, and the historic capital of Punakha. The itinerary also offers an optional trip to the picturesque alpine valley of Phobjikha. Highlights include a visit to the iconic Punakha Dzong in the Punakha Valley, Gangtey Gompa Monastery, and local farmhouses in the region known as the winter haven for the rare black-necked cranes.
Enjoy breathtaking aerial views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Bhutan’s sacred peaks such as Mount Chomolhari and Jichu Drake. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by our representatives and transferred to your hotel.
Start your day with a scenic drive to the historic ruins of Drugyal Dzong, 16 km from town, where Bhutanese forces once triumphed over Tibetan invaders. On a clear day, you’ll see the majestic Mount Chomolhari. On your return, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse to experience rural life.
Your morning includes a visit to the Memorial Chorten, a revered monument honoring Bhutan’s third king. Then, explore the National Library, home to ancient religious texts. Continue to Pangri Zampa Monastery, once the residence of Bhutan’s unifier Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. This historic site dates back to the early 1500s.
After breakfast, travel to Punakha via Dochula Pass, where you can pause for tea and take in sweeping views of the Eastern Himalayas. Visit the grand Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece located at the confluence of two rivers. Built in 1637, this former capital remains a vital spiritual and administrative center.
Begin your day with a short drive to Chuzomsa, followed by a journey to the peaceful Khotokha Valley. Visit Drajanchu Monastery and other sacred temples linked to spiritual figures like Guru Rinpoche and Drukpa Kunley. Stop by a spring believed to offer healing properties, then enjoy a picnic surrounded by pristine mountain scenery before returning to Thimphu.
Travel back to Paro and embark on a trek to Taktsang Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliffside about 800 meters above the valley. Known as “Tiger’s Nest,” it is believed that Guru Padma Sambhava meditated here in the 8th century after arriving on the back of a flying tigress. The hike offers incredible views and deep spiritual significance.
