Samya Ganden Trek

Ganden Monastery lies about 45 kilometers to the east of Lhasa. It has seen significant renovation, with more than ten of its structures now beautifully restored. The monastery stands out amid sweeping barley fields that blanket the valley floor, surrounded by scattered traditional villages. A popular and scenic route, the four-day trek from Ganden to Samye is considered one of the best moderate-level hikes in central Tibet. Along this high-altitude path, trekkers can experience the rich traditions and culture of the Tibetan people. The journey also includes visits to Tsedang, the ancient burial grounds of the Yarlung dynasty, as well as the culturally rich city of Lhasa and its historic monasteries.

To begin the adventure, travelers must enter Tibet from Kathmandu — either by air or by road. The overland option follows the picturesque Friendship Highway, offering stops at important towns and settlements along the way.
