Cho Oyu Expedition
Standing as the sixth tallest mountain in the world, Cho Oyu is part of the majestic Himalayan range and is often described as one of the most visually stunning peaks. The name, derived from Tibetan, translates to “Turquoise Goddess.” It’s a well-known destination for mountaineers due to its comparatively easier climbing route and historical significance.
Back in 1954, an Austrian team made up of Herbert Tichy, Sepp Jocher, and Pasang Dawa Lama Sherpa made the first successful ascent — impressively, they did so without supplemental oxygen. Since that landmark climb, hundreds of mountaineers have reached the summit, with most choosing the Tibetan side, which offers a more gradual incline than the steeper approach from Nepal.
